I actually forget how to say this guy's name within 10 seconds of hearing it. Eastern European/Slavic/etc names, in general, do this to me, and I feel particularly guilty when coworkers confront me over my clumsy pronunciations. Maybe it's my monosyllabic, super-common, Western European name that has removed the emphasis of properly labeling people... I have this thought regularly (weird, right), and it invariably leads to a discussion (in my head, I'm not crazy) about the importance of names, in general, and the establishment of identity.
In case you couldn't tell, I thought about this today, while listening to the New Yorker's Transition podcast.
